Draw Your Own Dreidel

A fun way to make the holiday your own. Learn some Hebrew letters, decorate it however you like. As a suggestion, you might do the decorating activity in the days leading up to Hanukkah to build anticipation for the holiday. It is said that dreidel was played as far back as the time of the Maccabees. It is said that children would sit around telling Jewish stories, which was illegal, and when the soldiers would come, they would quickly pull out a dreidel and pretend they were just playing a silly little game. Today, we play dreidel not only for fun and chocolate, but also it reminds us of a time when even telling the stories of our people was a criminal act.
